Qualifications and Goals Statement: My leadership style is intentionally simple and honest where all voices are heard and all people are included, not just those who speak the loudest. My various leadership experiences in Texas organizations have provided me an aspiration to move my leadership outside of my state.
I believe leaders in our professional associations who have been through the battles of passing laws and shaping the counseling profession are retiring and leaving for a second act. However, we still have new professionals trying to find their way. Thus, a unique leadership situation unfolds. I feel it is paramount for leadership to unite our distinctive generations of counselors to carry on the tradition and formation of our profession. Only through this process of erudition with distinctive generations do we truly have the prospect to “get” what is achievable for the counseling profession.
My simple goal for SACES is to unify our southern states. Sometimes it is preferable to find the easy road to our destination. But, our profession requires us to go “off road” with our students, supervisees, and clients who deserve our best, not just what is comfortable. I am qualified to meet these challenges.

ACA Branch, Division and Affiliate Membership, and Other Related Memberships:

SACES or ACES Association Experience:
As a Doctoral Student I served two years as the ACES graduate representative, during that time my colleagues and I oversaw the Counselor Education Doctoral Student Breakfast at ACA and ACES. We initiated the Counselor Education Research Seminar at ACES and ACA in order to provide pre-dissertation and dissertation support to Counselor Education doctoral students. Each year this seminar has proven successful as it brings together counselor educators with research backgrounds and doctoral students. I have prior experience as a part of the executive board working with Donna Henderson and James Benshoff, both past presidents of ACES. As a professional member of ACES, from 2006-present, I have served as the Chair of the Advocacy Interest Network. While the main goal has focused on advocacy for the profession and for clients, we have worked build up the interest among counselor educators, supervisors, to provide masters and doctoral level students the opportunity to become involved. For the past three years while in Tennessee, I was a member of Tennessee ACES and served 2008-2009 year as the president of TACES. In support of Tennessee Counseling Association conference we held a pre-conference with invited guest Dr. Deryl Bailey, University of Georgia at Athens. In spring 2009, we co-sponsored Carolyn Stone presentation on Legal and Ethics for School Counselors at the Tennessee School Counselors Institute. We have maintained a membership of forty plus and look to continue our efforts in the State of Tennessee. Some additional efforts were to establish a yearly budget and to develop bylaws in compliance with those of ACES.
Qualifications and Goals Statement: As the SACES secretary, I bring with me my experience of having served as a voting member of ACES and SACES. My efforts with both ACES and TACES were rewarded with successful endeavors that have continued to present day. I am a strong advocate for the voices of Counselors and have represented both students and professionals. As part of the SACES, I desire to continue the tradition of developing leaders for the profession and seek to incorporate more benefits to the membership in order to enhance current benefits. I also seek to maintain good records that preserve the growth, depth, and stability of the organization to ensure continuity occurs as executive council members change and bylaws evolve to reflect the needs of the organization.
